As a nurse and an attorney I bring my knowledge and expertise in both fields to each case. My legal experience involves complex medical negligence litigation including a $13.4 million dollar verdict in a 2007 Iowa birth-injury case and multiple large monetary settlements in medical negligence cases. I have evaluated hundreds of medical negligence inquiries for merit, conducted discovery including deposing many of the country’s leading medical experts and prepared cases for mediation and trial.
As an attorney my extensive nursing experience as a critical care nurse and my role as a nurse educator/clinical specialist teaching registered nurses and healthcare providers has given me an unique advantage in the medical negligence litigation field. I have developed and taught classes in advanced cardiac life support, critical care nursing for both adult and pediatric patients, evaluated nurses’ clinical performance, written hospital and departmental policies and helped in preparing healthcare facilities for inspection by accreditation organizations. As a practicing registered nurse with over 25 years of experience including training physicians, nurses and other healthcare providers, I can help you understand the medical issues in your case.
I am a member of the American Association of Nurse Attorneys, Chesapeake Nurse Attorney Association, Maryland Bar Association, Anne Arundel Bar Association, American Association for Justice and the Maryland Association for Justice. I was licensed as a registered nurse in 1979 and before pursuing my law career I was active in the District of Columbia Nurses Association, the Emergency Nurses Association and served as an officer for the District of Columbia Emergency Nurses Association.
